I confess, I have a very intimate relationship with Japanese food. When we went to SM Great Northern Sale last July 19-21, we made sure that aside from shopping satisfaction we’ll also be tummy compensated before going home! We found ourselves inside “Arafu Cafe” – a Japanese restaurant!
When we got a hold of the menu, I instantly looked for my favorite tuna sahimi and maki. To my surprise, they were not on the list! For the first time, I entered an authentic Japanese restaurant without the usual sushi, maki, or even the kani salad. Undecided about what to order, I asked the owner herself, Ms. Manami, of her suggestions. She’s kind enough to suggest their best sellers and house specialties, so we took everything that she said. She also explained the reason why they do not have the food I am looking for. She said they pride themselves on traditional Japanese-style home cooking and the food she suggested are actually Japan’s favorite.
When the food arrived, we didn’t let another minute pass. We instantly grabbed our dishes and took a bite and all I can say is awesome! Although I failed to eat what I initially longed for, I was fully satisfied with what Arafu Cafe offered!
The Food
Tawara Hamburg Steak – Php298
The quality of this burger is way better compared to the standard burger. You will notice the juiciness and tenderness of the burger in every bite.
Yaki Udon – Php290
I personally like the mixture of squid, pork, fried egg, and vegetables in the traditional japanese fried “udon” noodle.
Ebi Furai – Php278 for 3pcs
This! This dish is my favorite! The ebi is meatilicious and yummy. There is no thick covering flour that spoils the impressive taste of ebi furai.
Dashimaki Tamago – Php160
Arafu Cafe will not fail you with this popular Japanese recipe. It has an exquisite texture and it’s really appetizing.
Teriyaki Chicken Don – Php198
The chicken meat was a little dry to my liking, but other than that the teriyaki had a home-style taste to it.
Green Tea Latte – Php138
Only when I tasted their green tea latte did I realize that “Hey! Arafu is cafe!” And that explains why their green tea tasted so heavenly. It’s not something that someone will easily get tired of as it has a perfect blend of flavors.
The Price
Main dishes ranges from Php150 – Php300 while drinks ranges from Php60 – Php150. If you want add-ons (e.g. egg, cheese, vegetable salad, etc.) there’s is a minimal addition of roughly Php25 – Php70.
The Place
Arafu Cafe is a home-style casual dine-in and cafe where anyone can enjoy a conversation over a delicious meal away from too much distractions. The place is small, but comfortable.

To date, Arafu Cafe has 2 branches: SM City North EDSA and Bonifacio Global City.
